From the recording Soar
In celebration of spring and Mother’s Day, folk/soul duo, Joselyn & Don, have released their third single, “Mama Bird.” Its minimalist lyrics capture the tugs at a mother’s heart: wanting to soar, wanting to stay close to care for young ones, and the pain when they leave the nest. In this time of quarantine, these elemental struggles are put into high relief, and we feel our connection with nature more strongly. Interlocking acoustic guitars complement the song’s soulful feel, and Joselyn’s intimate vocals tug at the listener. The crowd-sourced lyric video was compiled from 100’s of photos submitted by fans, and released on Mother’s Day. “Mama Bird” is an offering to mothers everywhere, and to the children they raise.
Lyrics
Mama bird, bird, bird, where will you go
Mama bird, bird, hear you singing so low
Your babies are crying, but so is the sky
Mama bird never needs to ask why
Mama bird, bird, bird, where will you go
Mama bird, bird, hear you singing so low
Life is a hunger, the beat of a heart
A needing so simple, how could love be so hard
Mama bird, bird, bird, where will you go
Mama bird, bird, hear you singing so low
Cryin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Singin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Cryin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Singin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
The young they grow, and take to the sky
Learn what they need to know, and go
Mama bird, bird, bird, your babes have all flown
But here in my garden, you still have a home
Singin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Cryin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Singin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Cryin’, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
